Background Verification

Background verification checks selected information relevant to an employment decision, such as identity, qualifications or work history. The scope should be proportionate to the role and lawful in the jurisdiction.

Example

After a conditional offer, an employer verifies the qualification required for a regulated role and confirms employment dates supplied by the candidate.

What to keep in mind

Explain the checks and handle discrepancies fairly. An error in a record is not automatically dishonesty, and criminal, credit or health checks may face additional legal restrictions.
