Our mission
One accurate number, in under a minute
Every calculator on this site exists because a small business owner once had to guess a statutory number, overpay a consultant, or download a five-year-old Excel file to find an answer that should be instant.
We think that's broken. So we fixed it - free, no login, formulas that follow the published standard for each metric, and country-specific statutory tools (like our India payroll set) that are kept up to date when rules change.
Why we built this
Small businesses get the worst of both worlds
Enterprise HR software is too complex and too expensive. Generic free calculators are too inaccurate or buried under ads. There was nothing in the middle built specifically for a 10-person team.
Wrong defaults, wrong context
Most free calculators pick one country's rules and silently apply them everywhere. Statutory rules - social security, severance, payroll tax - are specific and change. Tools that don't say which rules they follow get them wrong.
Gated behind signups
The decent tools make you create an account, start a trial, or book a demo. A 12-person business doesn't need a SaaS relationship - they need one number, now.

Jopiz is a software company focused on small and medium businesses - the shops, agencies, clinics, and startups that are too small for enterprise software but too busy to be ignored.
We believe useful tools don't have to be complicated, expensive, or gated. SmallHRTools is our first public product: a free, no-friction suite of HR and payroll calculators for teams under 50 people anywhere in the world - universal HR metrics plus a dedicated set of India statutory tools.
It started as an internal tool to answer recurring compliance questions without opening a spreadsheet. When we realised other small businesses had the same questions, we cleaned it up, validated the formulas, and put it online. That's Jopiz in a sentence: scratch our own itch, then share it with everyone.
Who maintains this
A real person, accountable for every formula
SmallHRTools is built and maintained by Shakti Makvana, founder of Jopiz. Every calculator on this site is written, tested, and updated by hand - there is no auto-generated content farm behind it.
How formulas are validated: statutory calculators (EPF, ESI, gratuity, HRA, professional tax, TDS) are built from the primary source - the relevant Act, EPFO/ESIC circulars, and CBDT notifications - and cross-checked against published worked examples before release. Analytics calculators (turnover, retention, cost per hire) follow published SHRM and ISO 30414 definitions, and each page states which definition it uses.
When rules change: rate changes (EPF interest, tax slabs, ESI ceilings) are tracked at each Union Budget and via EPFO/ESIC notifications, and calculators are updated before the next pay cycle. Every tool page shows its last-updated date.

Every calculator is and will remain completely free - no feature lock, no trial expiry, no upsell mid-calculation. If we build a paid product, it'll be entirely separate from what's here.

Statutory formulas, not approximations
We track changes to EPF rates, TDS slabs, gratuity rules, and ESI thresholds. When statutory rules change, calculators are updated before the next pay cycle - not when someone complains.
