Involuntary Attrition

Involuntary attrition refers to departures initiated by the employer, such as dismissal or redundancy. Organisations should define how other exit types are classified before reporting the measure.

Example

An employer ends two roles after a reorganisation and dismisses one employee following a formal process, recording three employer-initiated departures.

What to keep in mind

Do not combine these exits with resignations when investigating retention causes. Classification supports analysis but does not establish whether a particular termination complied with the applicable law.
