Casual Leave

Casual leave is a leave category used by some employers, including in India, for short personal needs or unforeseen circumstances. Its entitlement and conditions depend on the applicable rules.

Example

An employee requests a day of casual leave for an unexpected personal commitment, following the employer's request and notification process.

What to keep in mind

Casual leave is not a universal statutory category with identical limits everywhere. Check the relevant state, establishment and policy rules, including whether unused days expire or can be carried forward.
