Employment Laws

Employment laws establish rights and duties in the relationship between employers and workers. They can cover contracts, discrimination, pay, leave, termination and other employment matters.

Example

Before changing an employee's terms, an employer reviews the contract and applicable law to determine what agreement, notice or consultation may be required.

What to keep in mind

Company policy does not override mandatory legal protections. Legal status and jurisdiction matter, so avoid assuming that wording from an overseas handbook is suitable for a local workforce.
