Pay · HR glossary

Equal Pay Policy

An equal pay policy sets out how an employer seeks to provide lawful and fair pay for comparable work. It should explain evaluation, decision criteria and routes for raising concerns.

Example

An employer reviews comparable roles and investigates differences in base pay that are not explained by its documented compensation criteria.

What to keep in mind

Equal-pay duties vary by jurisdiction and may concern equal work or work of equal value. A policy should not claim compliance based only on similar job titles or an organisation-wide average.
