Master Data Management

Master data management keeps important shared records consistent across systems. In HR, it may govern employee identifiers, organisational units, job codes and other core reference information.

Example

A company uses one approved department code list across HR, payroll and finance so that costs and employee counts can be reconciled.

What to keep in mind

Define which system owns each record and how updates reach others. A central database alone does not prevent duplicates or conflicting values if integration and change controls are weak.
