Sick Leave

Sick leave is time away from work because of illness, injury or another qualifying health-related reason. Eligibility, pay and evidence requirements depend on applicable law and employment terms.

Example

An employee follows the absence-reporting process when unwell, and the employer records the absence under the relevant sick-leave arrangement.

What to keep in mind

Avoid assuming a fixed number of paid days applies to every workplace. Handle health information confidentially and consider applicable disability, accommodation and statutory leave requirements when managing an absence.
