Talent Calibration

Talent calibration is a discussion in which managers compare and adjust assessments of employees' potential, readiness or development needs. It aims to apply common criteria across teams.

Example

Leaders review proposed successors for several roles and challenge assessments that lack evidence of the capabilities required at the next level.

What to keep in mind

Agreement among managers is not automatically accuracy. Ask for specific evidence, consider differences in access to opportunities and record why a judgement changes during the discussion.
