Total Rewards

Total rewards is the overall combination of financial and non-financial returns associated with work. It can include pay, benefits, recognition, development and aspects of the working experience.

Example

An employer presents salary, retirement contributions, health cover, learning opportunities and flexible scheduling together when explaining its employment offer.

What to keep in mind

Do not add non-cash benefits to salary in a way that implies they are spendable pay. Clearly distinguish guaranteed amounts, conditional rewards and benefits whose value depends on individual use.
