Attendance Policy

An attendance policy explains expectations and procedures for reporting to work, recording time and notifying absences or lateness. It should align with applicable rights and working arrangements.

Example

A policy tells employees who to contact if they cannot attend a shift, when to notify the employer and how to correct an inaccurate time record.

What to keep in mind

Apply the policy fairly and allow for emergencies or protected circumstances. Attendance triggers should prompt review, not automatically establish misconduct without considering context and relevant legal requirements.
