Compensable Factors

Compensable factors are the job characteristics used to assess relative role value in an evaluation method. Examples can include knowledge, responsibility, effort and working conditions.

Example

A points-based evaluation assigns levels and weights to defined factors, then uses the role evidence to determine a score.

What to keep in mind

Choose factors that reflect the work and can be assessed consistently. Weighting is a judgement, not an objective fact, and should be reviewed for bias and alignment with applicable equal-pay requirements.
