Goal Setting

Goal setting defines the outcomes or standards a person or team aims to achieve. Useful goals make priorities, evidence of success and relevant timescales clear.

Example

A payroll team sets a goal to reconcile all exceptions before the monthly approval deadline, with named owners and a documented checking process.

What to keep in mind

Goals should consider dependencies and available resources. Avoid measuring only speed or volume when quality, safety or customer impact are equally important to the work.
