HR Metrics

HR metrics are numerical measures used to describe workforce activity and outcomes. Examples include headcount, turnover, absence rates, hiring costs and completion of required training.

Example

An HR team reports monthly departures alongside average headcount and shows whether the departure rate differs by location or length of service.

What to keep in mind

Write down the numerator, denominator, reporting period and exclusions for each metric. A consistent definition makes comparisons useful and prevents apparent changes caused only by a revised calculation.
