Replacement Chart

A replacement chart records possible people who could cover or fill particular roles if the current holder becomes unavailable. It often focuses on immediate continuity and readiness.

Example

A department identifies an authorised backup for each critical responsibility and notes which people could cover temporarily versus take over permanently.

What to keep in mind

A backup list is not a full succession programme. Confirm actual readiness, availability and required permissions, and avoid naming one person as the simultaneous replacement for several essential roles.
