Second Chance Hiring

Second-chance hiring provides fair consideration to people who face barriers because of a criminal record or past involvement with the justice system. It considers role relevance and applicable legal restrictions.

Example

An employer reviews an applicant's skills and considers a past conviction only through a lawful, role-relevant assessment rather than an automatic exclusion.

What to keep in mind

Some roles have specific restrictions or checking requirements. Apply current law, protect confidentiality and avoid assuming that a record either proves future risk or can always be disregarded.
