Secondment

A secondment is a temporary assignment to another role, team or organisation with an expectation of a defined end or review. Employment and supervision arrangements should be documented.

Example

An employee spends six months with a partner organisation to support a project while the parties agree how pay, supervision and return arrangements will work.

What to keep in mind

Clarify who handles performance, leave, confidentiality and concerns during the assignment. A secondment does not automatically transfer employment, and the original role may need an explicit return agreement.
