Skill Gap Analysis

Skill gap analysis compares the capabilities required for work with the capabilities currently available. It identifies specific shortfalls that may be addressed through learning, hiring or changes to work design.

Example

A team needs three people able to maintain a database, but only one can currently do so independently; the analysis identifies a two-person capability gap.

What to keep in mind

A low rating is not automatically a training problem. Check whether unclear processes, missing tools or insufficient practice explain the gap before choosing a course as the solution.
