Work Life Balance

Work-life balance is the extent to which a person's work demands can coexist with their responsibilities, interests and recovery outside work. A suitable balance differs between people and circumstances.

Example

An employee agrees predictable finishing times so they can meet caring commitments while continuing to deliver the role's required outcomes.

What to keep in mind

Balance is affected by workload and expectations as well as formal flexibility. Check whether after-hours messages, understaffing or unpredictable schedules make an apparently flexible arrangement difficult to use.
