Workforce Sustainability

Workforce sustainability is the ability to maintain needed capability and healthy working conditions over time. It considers staffing, skills, knowledge continuity and the effects of work on people.

Example

A business combines succession planning with realistic workloads and development routes so that service does not depend on a few people working excessive hours.

What to keep in mind

A workforce plan is not sustainable simply because current costs are affordable. Consider future skill supply, health, retention and the ability to recover from predictable absence or business change.
