Competency Framework

A competency framework sets out the capabilities and behaviours expected for roles or levels. It provides a common reference for recruitment, development and performance conversations.

Example

A framework defines customer communication at three levels, from explaining routine steps clearly to handling complex disputes and coaching colleagues.

What to keep in mind

Keep descriptions specific and relevant to the work. Very broad statements such as excellent communication are difficult to assess consistently and can encourage judgements based on personal style.
