Internal Mobility

Internal mobility is the movement of employees between roles, teams, locations or assignments within an organisation. It includes promotions, lateral moves and temporary opportunities.

Example

A finance employee moves into a business-analysis role after demonstrating relevant skills and completing an agreed handover with their current team.

What to keep in mind

Set transparent application and release processes. Managers may need help planning backfills so that retaining staff in one team does not unnecessarily block their development elsewhere in the organisation.
