Leadership Competencies

Leadership competencies describe the behaviours and capabilities expected of leaders in an organisation. They turn broad expectations such as good judgement or communication into assessable requirements.

Example

A competency framework describes effective delegation as agreeing outcomes, assigning authority, checking progress and giving support without taking every task back.

What to keep in mind

Write observable behaviours and explain how expectations differ by level. Vague labels such as executive presence can invite inconsistent judgements unless they are translated into job-relevant evidence.
