Prescriptive Analytics

Prescriptive analytics compares possible actions and recommends choices under stated objectives and constraints. It may combine predictions with optimisation rules, costs and operational requirements.

Example

A scheduling model proposes shift assignments that cover demand while respecting availability, required skills, rest periods and the staffing budget.

What to keep in mind

The recommendation depends on the objective and constraints supplied. Review whether those rules reflect fairness and legal requirements; a mathematically efficient schedule may still be unsuitable for employees.
