Social Learning

Social learning is learning that occurs through observing, discussing and working with other people. In organisations it can include peer support, communities of practice and shared problem-solving.

Example

Engineers discuss how they diagnosed a recurring fault and compare their approaches, allowing colleagues to apply the lessons to similar equipment.

What to keep in mind

Shared advice should still be checked, especially for regulated or safety-critical work. Create space for questions and corrections so an informal group does not simply spread an inaccurate shortcut.
