Strategic Workforce Planning

Strategic workforce planning examines longer-term workforce requirements in relation to business direction and possible future conditions. It focuses on capabilities and structural gaps that take time to address.

Example

A utility assesses the retirement risk among engineers and builds an apprenticeship and knowledge-transfer plan before those specialists are expected to leave.

What to keep in mind

Separate scenarios from commitments. A long-term projection should make assumptions visible and identify trigger points for action, rather than presenting one precise staffing number as inevitable.
