Manpower Planning

Manpower planning is a traditional term for estimating and arranging the staffing needed to perform work. Employers increasingly use workforce planning to describe the same broad activity.

Example

A warehouse estimates the number of pickers required for an expected order volume, taking account of shift hours, absence and the time needed per order.

What to keep in mind

Use inclusive language where possible and distinguish people from full-time-equivalent capacity. Two part-time employees may count as two people but provide the hours of one full-time role.
