Whistleblower Retaliation

Whistleblower retaliation is detrimental treatment connected with a person's protected reporting of suspected wrongdoing. It can include dismissal, threats, demotion or other disadvantage under the relevant legal framework.

Example

A worker reports suspected financial misconduct through an authorised channel and subsequently receives threats intended to make them withdraw the report.

What to keep in mind

Protection depends on the applicable law and circumstances of the disclosure. Investigate concerns impartially and do not assume a policy promise alone provides an effective safeguard against retaliation.
