Balanced Scorecard

A balanced scorecard links strategy to a set of objectives and measures across several perspectives, traditionally financial, customer, internal processes, and learning and growth. It discourages reliance on financial results alone.

Example

An HR function tracks workforce cost, manager service feedback, process accuracy and capability development alongside the strategic objectives those measures support.

What to keep in mind

Choose connected measures rather than filling four boxes with unrelated statistics. Explain the assumed relationships and review whether improvements in one area are producing the intended wider outcomes.
