Reskilling

Reskilling prepares a person to perform a different type of work by developing a new set of capabilities. It is often used when jobs change, disappear or move into new areas.

Example

An employee whose routine processing work is being automated trains for a customer-support role and completes supervised practice before moving into it.

What to keep in mind

Assess interest, aptitude and the support required for the transition. Reskilling is more than offering a course; it needs a realistic route into suitable work and time to become competent.
